Hi Friends!
From the moment I could hold a crayon, art has been my way of capturing the beauty of the world around me. Whether through delicate charcoal strokes, vibrant acrylics, or the fluid movement of alcohol inks, my work is a reflection of both nature’s intricacy and simplicity. Join me in discovering the wonders of the world through my eyes, one brushstroke at a time.
I am an artist...
Sarah Blaskie has nurtured her passion for art ever since she was a toddler, instinctively drawn to translating the world she sees into visual representation. This early love for creative expression blossomed into a lifelong pursuit of mastering various mediums, from pencil and graphite to oil pastels, and ultimately into charcoal—a medium she discovered during her studies at East Central College and has become her signature style. Known for her bold, raw strokes, Sarah’s charcoal works showcase her love for dramatic contrasts and the forgiving nature of the medium, which she finds deeply expressive and meditative. As Sarah’s artistic journey has evolved, so has her exploration of other mediums. While she has a strong foundation in oil and acrylic paints, her recent ventures into watercolor and pottery have expanded her creative horizons. Hand-built pottery, in particular, has captured her imagination with its connection to nature and transformation through fire—an experience she likens to a phoenix rising from the ashes. Each medium she works with tells a story of resilience, beauty, and transformation. Sarah’s art is deeply inspired by the natural world, often using it as a source of healing and reflection. This connection can be seen in her abstract representations of insects, like praying mantises, and macro photography of jumping spiders, where she captures the intricate details and expressive personalities of these tiny creatures. Her fascination with nature extends to her series on women and trauma, where she uses symbolism from the natural world to explore themes of pain, healing, and empowerment. While Sarah draws from personal experiences, such as the challenges of motherhood, loss, and emotional abuse, she also finds inspiration in literature and music. Edgar Allen Poe’s dark, mysterious works and the haunting beauty of songs often shape the mood and themes of her art. Salvador Dalí, Picasso, Pollock, and Van Gogh are some of the artists who have influenced her approach, especially in their bold experimentation with form and emotion. Sarah’s artistic philosophy is rooted in the idea that art is both a personal and universal language—a way to communicate what cannot always be said. Her work often reflects her healing journey, especially when words fail her. Through expressive brushstrokes, textures, and colors, she channels emotions into pieces that connect with her viewers on a visceral level. One such piece, The Lion in Contemplation, stands as a tribute to a friend who helped her rediscover her worth, symbolizing the power of kindness and resilience. Beyond her own healing, Sarah is driven by a desire to help others through her art. Her dream is to use her creative talents to make a meaningful impact, from supporting charitable causes to promoting the work of artisans in developing countries. Her art is not just a personal outlet but a tool for connection, compassion, and change. As she looks to the future, Sarah envisions diving deeper into the world of pottery once her studio is fully set up, continuing to push the boundaries of her craft while finding new ways to use her art for good. Whether through playful, lighthearted paintings or deeply emotional charcoal portraits, Sarah’s work encourages viewers to slow down, look closer, and feel more deeply. Through her art, she hopes to inspire others to find beauty in the world around them, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant.
